Who would believe that here I am again – one week after walking a full marathon – about to participate in the Houston Aramco Half Marathon! Pretty amazing eh!
Of course John is back for his 2nd full marathon in a week – the Houston Chevron Marathon – superman! Last week he walked with me at a much slower pace than his usual so today he is going full speed ahead and knowing him, will enjoy every minute.
I fully intended to relish the day, enjoy the crowd and generally have a good time – certainly not looking to break any time records. And that is exactly what I did. It was a beautiful day, not too cold and when the sun came out it was just perfect and the atmosphere was fabulous.
I responded to the crowd when they called out encouragement to me, I smiled a lot and gave lots of gratitude – particularly to my feet! My friend Judy was on the sideline near her house to wave me on and I received several phone calls from friends sending their encouragement.
I walked the first half with Elsie and then the 2nd half with Donna – two wonderfully energized women and we certainly spurred each other on and all happily crossed the finish line and collected our bling with a big smile.
Donna, her daughter Joanna and I then waited at the finish line for John and Hugh (Donna’s husband) to cross the line at the end of their marathon. John arrived first in an amazing time of 5hr 15mins and looking like he could turn around and walk the whole event again! Hugh finished about half an hour later.
When we came home I immediately draped my medal on the special ‘marathon’ hooks displayed on the wall immediately in our entrance. John thinks I’m a little ostentatious exhibiting mine so publicly (his are in the office) but hey I worked hard for the bling and am happy for everyone to see them!
