December 3rd saw John return home from his last trip to Alaska this year. I know we put it out there to travel but I will have to reign it in somewhat as he has spent more time away this past 6 months than at home. Anyway we are both very excited about spending ‘work free’ days together in our upcoming family reunion in Hawaii.
You know the festive season has arrived in Houston when the city transcends into a sea of lights and displays. Can’t believe how quickly Christmas comes around again!Actually it’s my favorite time of the year so just love seeing all these decorations appearing and our neighborhood lighting up.Our walking / running club had a 5 mile Christmas Light walk to check out all the magic and it was just great to soak up the “buzz” and see everyone wearing something festive.
Another highlight before Christmas was attending the open house of the Hogg’s family historic home just down the road from where we live. It’s a Museum these days and comprises a magnificent mansion and beautiful gardens. They had the place set up with a Christmas Theme dating back to the 1800s in the South. We visited with our American friends Jackie and husband Chris, their daughters Ginny & Kathy and Ginny’s husband Ryan. A great night looking back at up some of the old American Christmas traditions and enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Our final special occasion before heading to Hawaii was a Christmas dinner get together with Pat & Sam, Diane & George and Candace & Bart - our truly great group of US friends. We get together for a meal every few months and on this occasion we met at a local Vietnamese restaurant called Hollywood – yes that’s the name (only in Texas eh!) We always have a super, fun, full of great conversation night when the 4 couples come together and this night was no exception. We were delighted to hear that Candace & Bart were going to participate in the upcoming USA Fit Half Marathon - their first event and hopefully we would be able to walk with them for a while even though we are doing the full marathon that day.Apologies to Diane & George – seems you missed John’s candid camera tonight!
