Rocky Ridge Getaway

We celebrated Memorial Day in a very special place this year – “Rocky Ridge” the vacation ranch of our friend’s Diane & George. Also enjoying this beautiful property, about 35 miles SE of Austin, were Pat & Sam and Candace & Bart.

The 8 of us ate, drank, ate some more, celebrated Candace’s birthday, had a commemorative toast for Memorial Day, talked and talked and learned new things – such an intellectual group of people (except of course when it came to answering the origin of the word Texas! But we will forgive them for this oversight – in actual fact they could have told us anything and we would have believed them! Now I’ll just have to google the answer….) And to end a perfect evening we star gazed at a sky so brightly lit with stars – it was just sparklingly awesome!

Before breakfast we walked the 230 acre property discovering ant lion holes, numerous foot & paw prints and tried to identify many different animal droppings (quite interesting!) We saw a deer, a box turtle, lots of birdlife and I had my first viewing of poison ivy! The ranch houses the main hacienda and 2 self contained cabins – all spectacularly furnished and decorated - we would certainly give Rocky Ridge a 5 star rating and Diane & George were the perfect hosts. Thanks Mr & Mrs Hildebrandt.

We shared a leisurely breakfast before saying goodbye and departing early afternoon, having enjoyed the most wonderful time with 6 wonderful friends. Life is good.
