NZ - Weeks 2 & 3 - Part 2

Tuesday
We packed “Little Miss Sunshine” (a people-mover we hired to enable the 7 of us, 6 people and a dog, to travel together in 1 vehicle) and headed to the Coromandel Peninsula for the next 5 days. We lunched at the Coroglen Pub before going on to the small town of Whitianga where we stayed in a very nice rental home. John & I took Power for a long walk along the beach and through the town to stretch our legs after the day’s travel while the others relaxed in the house and played Yahztee!

Wednesday
Blake, Power, Rachael, John & I caught the ferry from Whitianga to the other side of the bay while Jonno & Paul drove around the peninsula and picked us up on the other side. Our first stop was Cathedral Cove - a 45 min walk downhill (I had been thinking that our exercise had fallen off, but this little outing made up for a week’s worth in one go!) - but worth every step.
Cathedral Cove is amazing – so beautiful – the beach, the rock formations, the views – a definite highlight of this trip.

Of course just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Jonno drove us to Hot Water Beach. What an awesome place. Armed with a shovel we walked to the shoreline where Jonno began digging our own personal ‘hole’ to sit in and enjoy the hot water coming up from below. It was heaven – if only we didn’t have to share this beautiful place with so many other people!
