Our road trip continued on over the Pecos River and the Rio Grande and through the border town of Del Rio.
We hadn't booked our last night's accommodation anywhere so we were on the lookout for somewhere suitable to stay when we fell upon an absolute gem in a little town called Brackettville. Fort Clark, a military base, was established way back in 1852 and military heroes of both the Union and the Confederacy served there including World War 11 Generals George Patton and Jonathon Wainwright. We stayed in the renovated barracks from the Cavalry overlooking the old Parade Ground, now converted into a 9-hole golf course. There is also an amazing 100 x 300 spring fed swimming pool with a year round temp of 68 degrees (20C). It was like stepping back in history - a wonderful place and we would highly recommend it to those of you who might be passing by ....... That night we ate at a little restaurant in town called "Julie's" - great name and great service. We also met a couple there who were on an RV holiday so we asked them lots of questions about RV's Vs 5th wheelers and learned a few new things. We also discovered that there is a very large RV show here in Houston in February so looking forward to checking that out and catching up with Victoria, the marketing guru for Fort Clark, who will be there publicising the resort which includes an RV park.
We left Fort Clark and headed toward San Antonio where we had a break and walked around the Mexican markets. Then before we knew it we were back in Houston and unpacking the car. The holiday was just amazing - particularly our white Christmas experience. We discovered so many wonderful places and hopefully will return to all of them one day when we are on the road in our RV with no time limits.
Now onto the next adventure.....
