Thanksgiving 08 and John & Cheryl's Farewell

Thanksgiving

....It was really lovely to be invited to Martha & Ben’s for Thanksgiving dinner. Martha is an EDN consultant and was born and bred in the US - in fact Martha has a Cherokee Indian history so is a true blue American.

John, Cheryl & Lisa from EDN also joined in as well as Martha & Ben’s son, daughter-in-law and two gorgeous grandsons. Thanksgiving is a day that family and friends get together and give thanks – it is a beautiful day of appreciation and gratitude. It is really a special day as it is not commercialised at all and no-one gives gifts – although the turkey industry smiles all the way to the bank!
The food was typical of the occasion – roast turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies and home-made pumpkin bread. We contributed with “turkey” loaf (made with walnuts & brazil nuts and was very similar to ‘stuffing’), bean casserole, sweet taters and a tossed salad – deliciously raw.

Thanksgiving Day to New Year's Day is called the holiday season – so everyone wishes each other ‘Happy Holidays’ which took a little bit of getting used to as it doesn’t mean you are on holidays it just means it’s holiday season. As soon as Thanksgiving is over the Christmas decorations appear in full force and Houston once again becomes a fairyland of lights and Christmas music – it’s fantastic and I can’t get enough – bring it on!!

ps Martha has the best lounge chair – one that I could spend a great deal of time in relaxing, reading, sleeping or whatever!

John & Cheryl’s Farewell

It only seemed like yesterday that John & Cheryl arrived here in Houston and 18 months later we are all saying goodbye as they return to their home in Adelaide – how quickly did that time pass!! We had a great dinner at Bill & Anna’s on Saturday night with John Mc, Craig C & Paula (I was feeling a little sore after a morning training walk of 30 kms!), then lunch on Monday with Abe, Craig W and Liz and then John & I drove them to the airport on Monday afternoon, Dec 1st. They will really be missed both on the business front and personally and we certainly wish them well as they fulfill their goals and we particularly like the sound of their canoeing trip down the Murray. Have fun with all your grandkids and keep in touch …….
