Christmas Eve in the Snow

Looking out onto our balcony and seeing the snow fall was such an amazing thing to be doing on Christmas Eve - we just kept pinching ourselves and were very thankful for the experience we were having. While we were enjoying Christmas Eve here in the US all our family and friends were celebrating Christmas Day in Australia so some of our day was spent talking to our kids and other family and friends - we really felt like we were having Christmas Day too!

......We spent the afternoon walking around the beautiful Plaza area of Santa Fe looking at some of the jewellery being sold by the Indian vendors, went to the 5.30pm children's Christmas mass at the very impressive Catholic Cathedral (John's activity choice) then rugged up and walked through the Plaza area again to see the night lights and then headed over to Canyon Road.

Each year on Christmas Eve in New Mexico, paper bags with lit candles are placed along walkways. They are called farolitos or luminarias. In Santa Fe, people walk up Canyon road - a street full of galleries and artworks. We were really rugged up - layers upon layers of clothes as it was sooooo cold (probably around -3C). Walking up Canyon Road was wonderful - there were bonfires, carol singers and lots of people - it was a really fun thing to do and certainly a Christmas eve we will remember.
