Tues 4th November - US Election – history in the making and we were here!!!
We feel so lucky to be here at such a great time and were really excited when we were invited to an election party at our friends Diane & George’s house. We were the only ‘non voters’ there and soon discovered we were surrounded by Democrats so you can imagine how excited everyone was and as the evening progressed their enthusiasm increased – it was an amazing night. They had a television blaring in the lounge and in the kitchen so that not a second of information was missed. We found ourselves really submersed in the American way - it was wonderful – they filled us in on all the ins and outs of the system and the atmosphere was electric – everyone was just so happy to see a change in the current command. Did I mention the cake they had for desert decorated with the American flag and candles? It was such fun and I even wore my American flag sweater (bought especially for 4th July but this was a great excuse to wear it again!) This certainly was a night of history in the making.

Fri 31st October - Today we had we had an excursion after yoga with the yoga class – went off to The Family Jewels of Texas owned by one of our classmates, Ginger. Had a great time playing with all the goodies in her shop – trying on hats, jewellery etc and of course some of us made a small purchase before leaving!

Friday night 31st Oct – We enjoyed an evening with Michael Beckwith and his
wife Ricki Byars.
Michael is a teacher in spirituality – in fact he is one of the gurus on “The Secret” and Rickie is a composer and singer and she was just amazing to listen too – very talented lady and she saved the evening as Michael was just a little too evangelistic for us! We’re always willing to take on board and sift through other people’s beliefs and always end up learning something…..

y 3rd November - Lynda Dyer - another motivational speaker encouraging people to reach their potential. She is an Australian and delivered some really good information however her presentation was questionable so didn’t motivate us too much. “Does that make sense?” was ringing in my ears all the way home – I lost count of how many times she asked us that question. Again it was an interesting experience and I’m sure we absorbed some useful info. Caught up with a few friends (Alex & Lydia) so definitely a worthwhile night out.
Thurs 6th Nov – Opera - The Two Faces of Donizetti – ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ and ‘Don Pasquale’. Very entertaining, very funny in parts and a very, very long night! Had dinner at Shades in the Heights with Jackie, Chris, Ginny & Anna before the show. A bit of culture now and then is good for the soul – isn’t it??
Sat 8th Nov – Rocky Racoon, a 25km race in the Huntsville State Park. John participated in this event again this year and finished in a cool 2hr 38mins – superstar!! While he was there I was out training with Houston Fit and did a 16 mile training walk (which is just over 25kms) and for the first time finished in just under a 15min mile – yay! We are both ready and prepared for the ½ marathon next weekend in San Antonio – stayed tuned….
