Polish Pickle Run - Take 2 !!

Some of you may remember that John was registered to run in this fun run last year but being relatively new to the country we were a little confused and somehow ended up at the wrong town and missed the entire event! We had actually driven to Brenham instead of Bremond however this year we certainly didn't make that mistake again! We were up bright and early at 4.30am ready for a 5am departure and arrived in the little country town of Bremond at 7.30am.

The weather was hot, sunny and humid and there were so many people - the whole of the town plus more had turned out to celebrate the 20th Polish Day - apparently it is the biggest day of the year for Bremond so very exciting for the locals. At the end of the race the particpants were offered beer, Polish sausage and cake - this is at 8.30am and everyone seemed to love it and they certainly hoed in!! After the fun run there was a parade with lots of floats, horses, motorcycles, vintage cars, fire trucks and kids. The main street was lined with vendors and food booths, serving lots of Polish food including pierogi and kielbasa. We met quite a few of the locals and we really enjoyed our time in Bremond - certainly very different from the 'big smoke' Houston.
There were horseshoe and washer and domino games and that night there was a Polka Mass followed by a good ol' country dance. Unfortunately we had to leave early afternoon so missed the dance......maybe next year!
