g in as much as we could of Yellowstone and the beautiful Tetons that we found ourselves driving well into the night – well worth it though. The city sits in a valley surrounded by the Rocky Mountains – the setting looks fantastic however it apparently creates the perfect place for smog to settle with no way to escape and at times residents are asked to stay indoors if possible as it can bring on breathing issues etc. It is worse when it snows – something to do with the extreme cold and it is suggested that the young, the old and people out exercising should wear masks!
We were flying out of Salt Lake City at 2pm the next day so made the most of the morning. We went and visited Temple Square – an area in downtown that covers 35 acres. It is of course the home of the Mormons. We went inside the Tabernacle and were lucky enough to witness a sound demonstration. We were at the back and a young girl at the front of the building tore a piece of paper and without any microphones we were able to hear it very clearly. She then dropped a pin onto the pulpit and we heard that really clearly as well. To hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing there would be amazing.
We then walked around the rest of the complex – absolutely huge. There is a temple, a conference centre, the Tabernacle, Assembly Hall, Museum, 2 Visitor’s Centres, Office Building, Joseph Smith Memorial Building and some beautiful grounds full of statues and trees. Religion obviously pays well! We didn’t convert and John didn’t find himself anymore wives – not that it would have even crossed his mind………
We joined Kenny's beautiful cousin Amy and her husband Jim for lunch before heading to the airport where our 2 week holiday (holiday for me anyway - working holiday for John) came to an end. We had a wonderful time, experienced some amazing things and finished the break sharing a great couple of days with Kenny & Stephanie - thanks guys!
