We started this adventure on Tuesday 24th July when we flew from Houston to Denver,
Colorado. Denver’s airport is awesome – it’s like a huge circus tent and had ‘tornado shelter’ signs on the men’s and women’s toilets (oops I mean restrooms!)
After checking out the city of Denver we drove up to Casper, Wyoming, passing through the capital, Cheyanne. The terrain was very flat to the east however the west displayed the amazing Rocky Mountains. It’s summer here so no snow however we did get glimpses of it on the peaks. The drive took about 5 hours and was really interesting as everything is so new to us – we even saw wild deer just grazing not far from the highway.

We are having a great time checking out as much of the Mid West as we can fit in around the work commitments. One afternoon, when John had completed his ‘day job’, we went out for an airing and walked up the hill behind the hotel to the Casper Entertainment Centre. The complex is surrounded by lawn and lots of trees. The grassed areas were alive with rabbits – none of them perturbed by
our presence and we decided to sit on one of the many benches and ju
st watch them.
All of a sudden John said to me ‘wow, look up and see Solomon!” I thought he was joking but was amazed to see the largest owl staring down at me! He was so close – perched on the lowest branch in the tree. If I had been standing I could have reached out and touched him. For those of you who have read the “Sara” books by Esther & Jerry Hicks, you will understand why John referred to the owl as Solomon. It was definitely a memorable and special moment!

During the 4 day break between programs John & I drove to South Dakota and stayed in a wonderful little town called ‘Keystone’.
On the way we saw “Devil’s Tower”, a huge single rock formation (America’s version of our Uluru!) It is in northeastern Wyoming, near the South Dakota border. The jutting rock portion is the solid core of an extinct volcano. It is of cultural significance to many American Indian tribes. There are thousands of vertical cylinders of rock shooting up hundreds of feet from the ground apparently making it great for crack rock climbing (not that we did that!)
