Tonight's walk was through an area called Broadacres, one of Houston's most beautiful residential areas.
The upper class homes were all built around the 1920's and are all very unique in their architectural design - Eclecticism. This style of architecture involved the replication of Italian Renaissance, Tudor, French & Colonial. The homes were designed by Houston's most famous architects and their occupants were leaders in oil, cotton, lumber, banking and railroads.
The streets were absolutely beautiful - full of old oak trees with footpaths in the middle of grassed plantations running down the centre of the streets instead of along the front of the homes. One of the houses had a small replica of itself in the yard for the children's cubby house - fully airconditioned as well! We could easily live in the cubby - probably more cosy than rattling around in some of these mansions!

This is the cubby house!
