Chocolate + July 4th Celebrations

Saturday night we went out to dinner with Pat & Sam and their daughter Sarah and somehow ended up at The Chocolate Bar. The chocoholics among us needed to be dragged out the door kicking and screaming, because we just wanted to buy everything. One side of the shop is dedicated to an incredible assortment of handmade chocolates and novelties such as solid chocolate baseball gloves, guitars, mobile phones, computers, toothbrushes - you name it and it was there made of chocolate. There was even a 12" chocolate pizza - packed in a pizza box covered in white chocolate, nuts and cherries. They also catered for the health-conscious (just kidding) offering a half dozen kinds of chocolate-dipped fresh fruit such as strawberries, apple slices, and raspberries. The other half of the shop is filled with cakes and icecreams. We finally settled on the icecream bar - every type of chocolate ice cream you could imagine.....mmm, we wish we had more than one stomach. The place was packed - every table and chair was occupied and everybody was eating something that contained chocolate - and with all that chocolate flowing through our veins it was a very lively atmosphere! I can highly recommend "Day & Night" which is white cholocate icecream with dark chocolate chips - words can't even begin to describe........

July 4th: Happy Independence Day to ya'll! As you can imagine everything here is red, white & blue and we are quite caught up in the whole affair! We actually found ourselves tapping along to the Star Spangled Banner.......... We are joining our American friends later today to dine on pizza and icecream (can you believe we will be eating icecream again!!!) and then heading up to the roof here at the apartments to watch the spectacular fireworks display.

July 5th: Well the celebrations are over and we can put our passion of the American flag, the American national anthem and all things American behind us now and return to being the "Aussies". We had a wonderful time with a group of 30 locals at The Path of Tea where we drank red, white & blue coloured tea along with pizza and icecream - a bell rang every 20mins and we had to change tables ensuring we spent time chatting with everyone which was great. We then all drove over to our apartments and headed to the roof where we had a great view of Houston's contribution to the nation's 4th July fireworks. We had a 360 degree view of Houston, which is totally flat, so we were able to watch masses of colour exploding from 5 different locations across the city. It really was spectacular and a real party atmosphere. All the EDNers were there along with heaps of people who live in the apartments. The celebrations continued well into the night with most of us shining - emanating our own sparkles well after the skyshow had finished!

Off now to make myself beautiful for Keithy babe - we are going to the Keith Urban concert in a couple of hours and you never know - maybe we will get to meet him! Stayed tuned ...............
