The work schedule has been quite hectic of late – lots of staff coming and going in the apartments including a visit from the CEO who stayed for a week. Lots of programs to be delivered and not always enough staff available to deliver them – in fact I was even given an EDN shirt and attended several programs to help out. One of these programs was with the crew of the offshore rig - the Eirik Raude - see picture, which is operating in the Gulf of Mexico. The program was run here in Houston. Hopefully I contributed something (apart from my good looks!) – not quite ready to come out of ‘retirement’ though. Work also saw another trip back to San Antonio (5th trip), one of our favorite ‘smaller’ cities and it was a great trip for EDN – John won a very large contract. The Americas team here are just wonderful – very supportive of each other and always willing to help out. We really are becoming quite a little ‘family’.
The weather here is very tropical. Each day we seem to get a thunderstorm with lots of heavy rain and very loud thunder - then it just disappears. So as you can imagine it is very humid - bad, very bad for my hair! Everything is airconditioned so you really don't notice how hot it is. I have been walking early in the mornings with my new friend Lydia, and by the time we get back from the walk I am very sweaty and my hair is very, very curly! Apparently this is just the beginning of summer – the locals keep telling me it will be so humid in a month or so that even jumping in the swimming pool wont make any difference! Keep tuned and I will let you know if they are just pulling my leg. It is also hurricane season and there are continual warnings given out by the media to make sure evacuation procedures are in place and everyone knows exactly how to prepare for such an event – sounds exciting eh!

John was registered and all ready to go in this fun run with his friends, Ken & Marilyn. All we had to do was meet them there on Saturday morning a 7.30am – sounds easy. Well remember we are from a foreign country and do get mixed up from time to time with the Texan accent here.
Saturday morning we were up at 5am ready to get started on our 2½ hr trip to Brenham. We arrived in plenty of time and drove around the streets looking for the crowds – we were told that there would be at least 500 people there. Feeling a little frustrated that we couldn’t find anyone we finally stopped and asked a ‘John Coffey” look alike (from the movie The Green Mile) and after looking at our itinerary he just smiled an enormous smile and pointed out that we were actually in the wrong town. We were 98 miles away from Bremond where we were supposed to be! Brenham and Bremond - sound very similar don’t you think? Anyway we reset our GPS and off we went in search of the fun run which of course was finished by the time we arrived. It was really quite funny and we laughed a lot while driving those 98 miles!
The Polish Pickle fun run was just the first event in the Polish Day festivities. We arrived in time to see all the runners drinking their free beer on completion of the race! An amazing sight at 9 o’clock in the morning. John purchased a commemorative t-shirt – one that will always put a smile of our faces when we remember his ‘claytons’ run – the run you have when you turn up in the right place! The main street of Bremond was full of people and stalls and music and atmosphere and cowboys and kids, lots of kids. The atmosphere was awesome. Then came the street parade. It was such fun. Every float, tractor, truck, bike, horse or whatever that went by threw lollies as they passed. There were no safety barriers or police – it was just so unpretentious, unpolished and natural – we were so grateful to have been able to experience some real country entertainment.
