Looking back over the last 2 weeks .......

Spent Mother's Day driving to Lafayette, Louisiana, were we spent 3 days observing a 2 day safety training program delivered by EDN. I had originally thought I would just stay for the first couple of hours of the program then duck out and check out the town - do a bit of shopping etc. However the presenters did such a wonderful job I stayed for the whole 2 days! Over the years I have 'suffered and slept' through many safety presentations but this one was different. I couldn't believe it when the participants gave a standing ovation at the conclusion - I have never ever witnessed that before - it was amazing.
Well done George V & Gerry G.

We arrived back in Houston late Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday night: bbq tea by the pool with George V - very relaxing.

Friday night: we hosted a dinner here at the apartment for some of our US friends, Pat, Sam and Candace. It was a great night. We welcomed Pat & Sam back from their trip to Kentucky for their daughter's graduation ceremony and we farewelled Candace who is leaving this week to meet her husband Bart in China and do some travelling around that country.

Saturday: spent the day with our Columbian friend, Juan - lunch here at the apartment, shopped for goodies for his wife and little boy (who are back in Columbia) around on West Gray shopping strip, and then dinner at the Path of Tea.

Sunday: celebrated Gerry G's birthday with Craig, Bill & George, lunch at 'Texadelphia' and a smiley faced birthday cake!

Monday: lunch with Bill, Chuck & Craig here in apartment

Tuesday: dinner with Juan & Bill at La Griglia, a wonderful Italian restaurant not far from the apartment - great find! Juan has now left Houston and is relocating to Mexico with his company (and his wife and child) and we plan to visit .......

Wednesday: dinner at Path of Tea with "Great Friends and Good Conversation" group. Another wonderful night with Thia, Chris, Alex, Lydia. Met some more interesting people and we are getting together again next week for dinner and a movie - "The Secret Behind The Secret" - should be a good night.

Thursday: Attended an evening with Brandon Bays - Author of "Freedom Is" & "The Journey". Fascinating night - didn't quite connect with her presentation but was an interesting experience.

Friday: Met a wonderful lady, Georgana, while out walking. She instantly became our 'US Tour Guide' and has mapped out all the best places we should see while we are here. She has since emailed us with more details and we will be catching up soon. People here are so friendly and welcoming - everyday we seem to meet another lovely person.

Saturday: Spent afternoon at Bubba's (local bar) with Bill and his friends. Another interesting experience! They taught us how to speak "Texan"...... Bill had just been shopping and was wearing his new outfit - Cowboy shirt (black with red embroidered roses), enormous 'Texas' belt buckle and amazing stingray boots! Whoops forgot to mention the silver cowboy hat! Something happens when you have been here too long........... yeehaa!!

Sunday: Lunch here in the apartment with Bill and Gerry. Dessert was a delicious chocolate brownie - especially made for Memorial Day. The local supermaket is currently full of red, white & blue celebrating the Memorial Day long weekend - everything is covered with the American flag and "God Bless America" adorns cakes, cookies and anything else that can be written on!

Dinner Sunday night at Pat & Sam's with another couple, Karen & Richard, from Albuquerque in New Mexico, one of the oldest cities in the US and about a 2 day drive from Houston. Each day we learn a little more about this most interesting country and its many cities and states.

Monday: Memorial Day holiday here in the US commemorating all who have given their lives serving the country. It is one of the biggest retail 'sale' days - so naturally we spent the afternoon shopping! Arrived home exhausted with loads of goodies and a much lighter wallet - another productive day!

Before we arrived here in Houston I wondered if I would get bored not having a job - haven't had time yet! John is working incredible hours but also makes time to enjoy each day - he is an amazing man........

That's it for now - off to bed to get some sleep to energise for another week ......................
